The British actor known to millions and millions around world as Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the starship Enterprise on "Star Trek: The Next Generation, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday,the BBC reports.
Picard is really actor Patrick Stewart, 69, who is also an excellent Shakepearean player.
According to the BBS story, Stewart said he owed his career to an English teacher who had first encouraged his acting talents, noting "he was the one that put a copy of Shakespeare in my hand [and] said, ‘Now get up on your feet and perform’." Besides his TV role on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and his re-occurring role in the X-Men films, Patrick has also appeared in more than 60 productions of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
