Lifetime is working toward a spinoff of "Army Wives" by casting Gabrielle Union in a role in an "embedded pilot" in the show’s current fourth season, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Union, who has appeared in television shows such as "Ugly Betty" and "FlashFoward," will play the partner of Pamela Moran, played by Brigid Brannagh, when Moran returns to her former career as a detective in the Atlanta police department, the report says. The embedded crime drama has been developed under executive vice president entertainment JoAnn Alfana and "Wives" writers Bruce Zimmerman and T.D. Mitchell are attached to the project, according to the article.
