NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ Off to a Strong Ratings Start

The return of NBC’s popular reality show "America’s Got Talent" had a strong start for the summer run in its two hour premiere on Tuesday night in the Nielsen ratings, reports TVbythenumbers.com.

For the eight o’clock hour, "America’s Got Talent" averaged a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 year-old demographic. The show grew 13% in the ratings from last year’s summer premiere. 

ABC’s sneak preview of "Wipeout" was second in the hour with a 2.9 average, tied with the premiere of Fox’s "Hell’s Kitchen." "Kitchen" also gained ground, 4%, versus last summer’s premiere. 

At nine o’clock, the second hour of "America’s Got Talent" surged to a 4.1 rating in the 18-49 demo, just ahead of Fox’s "Glee" which had a 3.9 average.

The second hour of the "Wipeout" preview rated a 3.2.

The premiere of "Losing It with Jillian" on NBC collected a 2.7 average for the hour, while ABC’s "20/20" earned a 2.4 average in the 18-49 demo.
