Steve Carell has confirmed that he is indeed leaving "The Office" at the end of next season, reports E! Online.

E! News hit the red carpet for Carell’s new movie "Despicable Me" Sunday night, June 27, 2010, and Carell said about leaving "The Office," "I just think it’s time. I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go."

But according to Carell, "The Office" could go on without him. "It doesn’t certainly mean the end of the show," he told E! News. "I think it’s just a dynamic change to the show, which could be a good thing, actually. Add some new life and some new energy…I see it as a positive in general for the show."

  1. It’s all in how they handle it and fill that gap. I have been tired how Michael Scott has gone from a sort of sweet bumbling oaf to more of just an oaf. Sort of how Homer Simpson has has degraded over time. Anyhow, I won’t shed a tear.

  2. Don’t pee on him Greg, he tied the whole room together. I expect the after Carrell will be something like “After M*A*S*H”, but if I’m wrong, I’m happier for it.

  3. I think the show has been getting more uninteresting the last year or so. With or without the Michael Scott character, it’s time to pull the plug.
