Oprah’s OWN Investigating Foul Play in Online Voting for Finding Talk-Show Host

Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, her television network that will debut in early 2011, is investigating foul play in an online voting contest to find the host of a talk show, reports Fox 411.

The contest, which requires contestants to submit video entries, has received almost 6,000 entries. Before Tuesday, the favorite had been Zach Anner, a wheelchair-bound comedian who has cerebral palsy. But another contestant, Dr. Phyllis, overtook him that day, earning 300,000 votes in less than 20 minutes and 600,000 votes in an hour, the article says.

That’s prompting "many to question whether the network, or even Winfrey herself, had played a part in goosing her numbers," the article says. Dr. Phyllis also received an endorsement from John Mayer last week, which may have helped her. But website Geekosystems reports that Dr. Phyllis’ voting button had been altered from the contest’s other entrants.

  1. If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
