A good old-fashioned price war has broken out between two e-readers: Amazon’s Kindle and the Nook from Barnes & Noble, USA Today reports.

According to the reports, "Amazon.com on Monday slashed the price of its Kindle e-book reading device to $189 just hours after Barnes & Noble cut the price of its competing Nook e-reader to as low as $149."

The Nook in question just has Wi-Fi. Barnes & Noble also dropped the price of its Nook that has both 3G and Wi-Fi to $199, from $259.

The article quotes tech analyst Rob Enderle as saying, that Barnes and Noble, " ‘Barnes & Noble "could really benefit from in-store sales,’ since impulse buying by casual shoppers accelerates for items priced under $200."
