The New York Post is charging that ABC and NBC are paying for high-profile news interviews, with ABC shelling out at least $100,000 for an interview with the mother of accused murderer Joran van der Sloot that will appear on "Good Morning America" and "Nightline."

NBC, meanwhile, has paid about $340,000 for an interview with Michael Jackson’s mother on the first anniversary of his death, the story says. That interview will appear Friday on "Dateline."

ABC says that it paid a licensing fee to a production company for the U.S. rights to the interview with Anita van der Sloot. And while the Dutch company that conducted the interview said the money wouldn’t go to the mother or the accused killer, some of it apparently will pay for Joran van der Sloot’s attorneys in Peru, where he’s accused of murdering a woman, the story says.

NBC is also licensing the interview with Michael Jackson’s mother from a former adviser to the singer, Marc Schaffel, the article adds.
