Survey Says: Which of These Movies is the Most-Watched Video-on-Demand Movie of All Time: ‘Twilight,’ ‘The Hangover,’ ‘Titanic’

Video-on-Demand distributor Avail-TVN has released a report listing the top 20 most-watched On-Demand movies of all-time, Multichannel News reports. The one caveat: no data from movies shown on-demand in 2010 was included.

Indicative of the growing popularity of on-demand viewing, 14 of the top 20 have been released in theaters in 2008 or later. For example "Twlight,’ released in 2008, in No. 2 on the list.

Interestingly, the movie that was the No. 1 theatrical box-office hit until last year, "Titanic," is not in the top 20. In fact, the oldest film in the top 20 was released in 2007.

The most-watched on-demand film of all-time is lhe R-rated comedy hit "The Hangover," which was released in theaters in 2009.

According to the report, 11 of the top 20 films "were available via VOD on the day the movie was released on DVD."

The article also notes that, Doug Sylvester, Chief Strategy Officer, Avail-TVN, said in a statement, "Strong VOD movie performance is continuing in 2010 and we expect to see three or four new additions to the top 10 list this year. VOD is emerging as a key channel for digital media delivery."

  1. This is an interesting trend, I expect that eventually these types of buys will outpace DVD sales via services like Netflix, Vudu, Apple TV, Google TV, etc. Magnolia has an interesting promotion with HDNet where HDnet plays the movie one night before release. I wonder if it is effecting receipts in a positive way?

  2. After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the unspeakable is music

  3. Was the booing of Sarah Palin on previous evening of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ wrong? really do not like Sarah Palin, no need to buy her publication. Just do not be her Facebook buddie. Please don’t vote for her but make sure you have some good manners, booing is so impolite.

  4. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like this one these days.. 🙂
