Two “Glee’ items today.

First, there is a planned revival of “Funny Girl” planned for next year on Broadway. The original show, of course, memorably starred Barbra Steisand.

According to an article in Entertainment Weekly, “When asked whether the pair would consider Lea Michele — who memorably sang “Don’t Rain on My Parade” in the midseason finale of Glee — to play Babs’ former role, [the producer of the revival, Bob] Boyett told The New York Times, ‘I think Lea is wonderful, she’s great, and she would certainly be on anybody’s list. She’s also got a pretty good gig going now,’ adding that ‘we’re open to going with an unknown actress.’ ” “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” is one of  the songs in “Funny Girl.”

Furthermore, Lea is the popular choice to play the part according to an ongoing reader’s poll on the EW site.

In other “Glee” news, EW broke the story that publisher Little Brown will publish a series of “Glee” books under the publisher’s Books for Young People imprint.  Says the article, ” the first [title] to roll off the press will be an original novel called “Glee: The Beginning. This prequel to the show, which includes a double-sided poster, will hit stores this August.”

  1. Lea will make a lot more money on Glee than on Broadway. She would be better off coming in for short periods as a substitute and driving renewed interest in the show during the run.
