The auto-tuning debacle may be drawing to a close for U.K. television, with Simon Cowell banning the technique for "The X Factor" and scrapping an episode of show because it didn’t meet his standards, reports the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
"People have got to be able to trust ‘The X Factor’ – we are not faking anything," Cowell said. More than 300 viewers complained after an 18-year-old contestant’s voice on last week’s episode was altered with auto-tuning, which hides pitch errors, the story says. The U.S. hit "Glee" incorporates auto-tuning into many of its songs.
Separately, producers of "American Idol" issued a statement saying that the show has never used the technique, reports the Associated Press. "We have never, nor would we ever, use Auto-Tuning during the ‘American Idol’ competition," the statement said.
