Auction of ‘Lost’ Memorabilia Exceeds Expectations; Camaro, Signed Script Among Top Items

An auction over the weekend in Santa Monica, Calif., of props and other items from the ABC hit "Lost," which went off the air in May, drew a crowd willing to pay far more than pre-sale estimates for items such as the copy of "Watership Down" read by actor Josh Holloway in several episodes, reports The New York Times.

The book, with a pre-sale estimate of $300, ultimately sold for $3,300, the story says. Oceanic Airlines-branded water bottles, which were shown in the pilot, sold for $1,680, compared with a pre-sale estimate of $200.

"This show is the new ‘Star Trek’ when it comes to collecting,” said Joseph Maddalena, the founder of the auction house Profiles in History, which ran the event.

The top sellers included Hurley’s red-and-white Camaro, which sold for $24,000–well above the pre-sale estimate of $15,000–and a script signed by co-creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, which drew 100 bidders before selling for $18,000, compared with a pre-sale estimate of $300, the article says.
