Years ago Barbara Walters came up with an idea that grew into the very successful daytime talk show "The View," and now Walters is ready to strike again with a spinoff of "The View,” reports the New York Daily News.
However, this time the target audience will be men.
Walters and Bill Geddie, her co-creator of "The View," are pitching a spinoff of "The View" with a male perspective and featuring men as hosts.
The top name on their wish list is former "Today Show" host Bryant Gumbel.
Not sure if it will work.
Firstly, if one imagines that “The View” targets housewives and stay-at-home mothers, I doubt you’ll find a large enough audience of house husbands and stay-at-home fathers.
Secondly, who wants to watch Bryant Gumbel.
There has already been a male version of The View…
“The Other Half was co-hosted by Danny Bonaduce, a daytime talk show positioned as a complementary show to The View, on which he starred with Mario Lopez, Dick Clark, and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jan Adams (who was later replaced by actor Dorian Gregory). The show aired from 2001 to 2003.”
Oh boy! Bryant? No way, he’s too nasty and his ego is too big. he was the least likable host whent the View had all the males sit in as guest hosts. He was too aggressive and attacked the guests. I don’t like Gumbel in this environment although I do enjoy his HBO sports programs.

In 1995, toward the end of the O.J. trial, I pitched Barbara Walters on a daily women’s oriented show I wanted her to host (it was called FEMI-9-1-1). Her assistant told me to fax a show synopsis to her and she’d get it to Barbara. I did. When I called to confirm receipt Barbara’s assistant said she’d put on it on Barbara’s desk for her review. I’d also pitched Bill Geddie on the same show (he had a production company and did work with Barbara on her specials) and he said that I should pitch her the show idea.
A little more than a year later ‘Barbara’s idea for a show,’ The View, went on the air.
I’ve got proof of my allegations for anyone who cares. I’d also like to get Barbara’s assistant at the time to take a lie detector test. I guarantee she wouldn’t pass it.
The View franchise continues to chug along. It’d be nice for Barbara and company to come clean about how the show really came into being.
(For those of you thinking, “Why didn’t he sue at the time?” it’s quite simple: Try getting a talented lawyer to go up against Barbara Walters and ABC on a contingency fee basis… good luck!)

The male version of the view runs all day on ESPN and ESPN2. Check the demos. Guys at home during the day are interested in talking sports not politics and celebrities.
