With Katie Couric’s CBS contract coming to an end next spring and “CBS Evening News" stuck in third place, there’s been speculation that Couric might leave the network, and now NBC’s Jeff Zucker is saying her former home would be interested in her returning, The New York Times reports.
Zucker, the chief executive of NBC Universal, said Wednesday on MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" that the network would consider rehiring Couric if she became a free agent. CNN is another possible landing spot for Couric if CBS chooses not to re-sign her.
Asked about Couric by host Joe Scarborough, Zucker said, "I have always said, look, Katie would be a great addition wherever she is. If the time were right, I think that’s something we would look at. You know, but she’s under contract now, and I think she’s happy where she is, whether you believe it or not. So I’m not going to wade into that controversy."
