"Dancing With the Stars" announced its new celebrity line-up on Monday, with some of television’s best-known names from classic shows of the 1970s and 1980s signing up, according to an announcement from ABC Entertainment.

Florence Henderson, who played Carol Brady on "The Brady Bunch" during its run from 1969-1974, will be showing off her dancing skills, while David Hasselhoff of "Knight Rider" and "Baywatch" fame will also be competing on the show. The remaining 10 contestants are best-selling recording artists Michael Bolton and Brandy; comedian Margaret Cho; former L.A. Lakers forward Rick Fox; "Dirty Dancing" star Jennifer Grey; "Cory in the House" star Kyle Massey; Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol Palin; "The Hills" star Audrina Patridge; "Jersey Shore" cast member Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino; and former St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner, the network says.

According to the New York Times, Bristol Palin was asked during a question-and-answer session following the release of ABC’s announcement what her mother thinks about her joining the show.
“She’s excited for me. She knows that this is going to be hard work but she’s excited," Palin said. Asked if Sarah Palin would visit the show, Bristol answered, "Hopefully."

  1. The “Guests” are the usual across the board set of diverse backgrounds. But WHY the daughter of a former VP candidate? That entire family should be ignored. The ex-candidate will take advantage of yet another place to make noise and draw undue attention to her “agenda”. ABC should tell the producers NO on this one.

  2. Or perhaps the producers are hoping for a Sarah Palin appearance that will boost ratings. This is an entertainment show looking for the largest audience possible. I’m sure they’re not the least bit interested in any personal agendas of their guests; they’re interested in building an audience. That’s why they have entertainment and sports personalities and shirt-tail celebrities as part of the show.

  3. Peter, I don’t hear you COMPLAINING about THE SITUATION being on the show? Talk about a meaningless, selfish individual! What has he done or what can he do for our country? Nothing but bring VIEWERS to ABC. So there you have it – all about the bottom line for ABC – VIEWERSHIP. Which is good business.

  4. Peter,
Past contestants have included Tucker Carlson, Jerry Springer and Tom DeLay all political characters representing various views, but NOT during the program itself. In addition, many of the contestants have openly endorsed various political candidates, should there be a political litmus test for an entertainment show? Put your political bias aside and realize as another commenter succinctly put it it’s, “all about the bottom line for ABC, VIEWERSHIP!” They’re dancing for pete’s sake, not campaigning.

  5. Well, as a fan of DWTS, I can say this cast leaves me more underwhelmed than a cold french fry. I can honestly say that if this is INDEED the cast, their quest for the ‘largest entertainment audience’ possible, will exclude me. I’ll certainly take the season off to watch something better OR better yet, (re)visit some old and new books. evan
