Gallup Poll: Confidence in TV News Is Declining

Aug 16, 2010  •  Post A Comment

A recent survey by the Gallup organization reveals that only 22% of respondents have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in television news, reports TVNewser.

That result is significantly down from previous years. In 1999 the figure was 34%, and in 1993 it was 46%.

One theory suggests the decline could be the result of the proliferation of cable news outlets, with Fox News Channel and MSNBC getting in the game since earlier surveys. In 1993 CNN had the market segment to itself.

  1. This is likely due to the fact that none of the cable news networks only do news anymore in prime time. It has become pointedly biased talking heads slanting the news right or left depending on the channel. No one would have confidence in that.

  2. Another factor: exposure to more numerous news sources from alternate points of view have revealed how slanted and distorted “mainstream” news sources like CNN, major Network news, Newsweek, NY Times, etc. actually are.

  3. We can’t forget that few people younger than 60 even watch TV news and an entire generation doesn’t even know what it is. You can’t have confidence in something you know nothing about.

  4. News? It is shameful that news orgs even exist today. They are all whores. Reporters especailly political reporters are whores and for sale to highest bidders.
The sooner they go way the better. We need news but do not need propanganda.
    Let them all die.
