‘Idol’ Dumps Sony Music in Favor of Universal; Ryan Seacrest Says It Could Be Weeks Before Judges Announced

After nine seasons of partnering with Sony Music, "American Idol" has dumped the label in favor of Universal Music Group, reports Reuters.

The agreement will allow Universal to market and distribute albums from the show’s finalists and winners starting with the upcoming season, the story says. The deal with Universal is for a minimum of three years. The arrangement had provided Sony’s RCA label with hits from singers such as Kelly Clarkson, with the show selling over 100 million music units in North America, the story says.

Separately, "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest says it may be weeks before the show’s new judging panel is set, reports the Associated Press

Seacrest also said he didn’t know how many judges will ultimately end up on the show.

  1. Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
