In its 60 years on the air, the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon has raised nearly $6.5 billion, and last year’s results are evidence that the telecast is recession-proof, says the comic legend/host, according to UPI.com.
Lewis, who is getting ready for the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon, said that last year during the recession, the event still raised $60.5 million.
"It was bad last year and look what we did," the 84-year-old told the Las Vegas Sun.
