The producers of "American Idol" reportedly want to talk to representatives of the recording artist who holds the record for the 8th biggest selling album in U.S. history, reports our former Crain colleague Claire Atkinson in the New York Post.
The artist is country sensation Shania Twain. While her name had been earlier floated as a possible candidate, she was ruled out recently. But now she may end up taking the spot that had been thought would go to Jennifer Lopez, who, as previously reported, may now be out of the running.
Twain, whose 1997 album "Come on Over" is the 8th biggest selling album in U.S. history in any musical genre, was one of the mentors for the contestants this past season.
Separately, Twain will host a personal-improvement show for Oprah Winfrey’s new cable network , OWN, called, "Why Not? With Shania Twain."
