MSNBC Host Has Meltdown Over Promos, Screams To Shocked Staff, ‘I’m going to torch this [bleep]ing place!’

Hey, it’s the dog-days, it’s hot, so what’s a little screaming meltdown between friends? Still, it may not go over too well with your bosses.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin and NBC News Steve Capus gave MSNBC host Ed Schultz a warning after the talk-show personality had a meltdown in the network’s newsroom in which he told staff, ""I’m going to torch this [bleep]ing place," reports the New York Post’s Page Six.

Schultz was reportedly upset because the network was airing election-night promos that didn’t include him, the story says. After talking with the network’s marketing department, Schultz reportedly slammed down the phone and had his meltdown, which included him yelling, ""[Bleep]ers!", the article says.

Schultz was informed in the meeting with Capus and Griffin that if he has another meltdown, he will be fired, the story adds. Schultz’ spokeswoman and a representative for MSNBC declined to comment.

  1. Doesn’t he understand that he is on the last rung of the ladder at MSNBC? If he gets fired from there it is local news in Hicksville.

  2. I’m sure “Big Ed” is blaming Rush Limbaugh for this.

  3. Well, as long as the news is coming from such a respectable source as Murdoch’s New York Post’s GOSSIP page — then I’m sure everything happened exactly as reported.
Having worked in the promo department of a major network for a decade, this is a total non-story. My bosses (and their bosses) were frequently yelled at by stars, show-runners, publicists and studio bosses over what was, or wasn’t, included in specific on-air spots.
We got so good about giving away the ending of episodes in our promos, for example, that some shows began hiding surprise endings from the network itself, so as to not ruin the surprise for viewers. I can’t tell you how many times our spots would feature the actual climax of the episode in the promo. It’s like cutting a trailer for Citizen Kane with a voice-over announcing, “And Rosebud was a sled!”

  4. That is HILARIOUS! You obviously worked for the same company as Mr. Schultz, (and don’t ask me how I know that…)
