On-Air Medical Emergency for Morning Show Host

Aug 6, 2010  •  Post A Comment

On CBS’s "Early Show," co-host Harry Smith nearly lost a finger while participating in a cooking segment on Friday morning’s episode, according to TVNewser.

With guest Katie Lee, Smith was slicing zucchini on a mandolin when he suddenly stopped and reached for a towel to stop the bleeding. While another member of the staff jumped in to complete the segment, Smith left the set and was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, where the father of CBS medical correspondent Dr. Jen Ashton treated the finger.

Erica Hill stepped in to complete the segment while Smith was taken away.

The injury reportedly did not require stitches.
