Drew Carey, who has lost 80 lbs, tells People how he’s done it.

According to the article, Carey, 52, showed up at a party during the the TV Critics tour last week and said, ""It sucks being fat, you know. I was diabetic with Type-2 diabetes.”

But with his dramatic weight loss the diabetes is gone, Carey told People.

Here’s Carey’s secret. Carey told people,  "No carbs. I have cheated a couple times, but basically no carbs, not even a cracker. No bread at all. No pizza, nothing. No corn, no beans, no starches of any kind. Egg whites in the morning or like, Greek yogurt, cut some fruit."

The article adds, "He snacks on fruit, and for dinner he’ll have grilled chicken and steamed vegetables and water. ‘I don’t drink anything but water,’ he says. ‘No coffee, no tea, no soda.’ "

Also important, Carey says, are his 45 minutes of (almost) daily exercise that emphsize cardio workouts.

  1. Uh, Drew? As a type 2 diabetic may I remind you that most fruits are mostly carbs (sugar, you know)? Still, congratulations on your new healthy self. You look great!

  2. Good job Drew! Lost more than me. I too was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic, told to lose 20 lbs.(from 207 to 187). Started counting carbs, strictly limiting them and went from 207 to 175. That was 2 years ago, this morning I weighed 178, so I’m hanging on. Like you I cheated some but mostly stuck to it.I didn’t elimnate breads just stuck to strict carb limit, 40 per meal and the big thing is the 55 minutes, “nearly every day” of exercise. Hope your stroy inspires others too.
