Something Wild: Oscar-Winning Director to Direct Two Episodes of HBO Series

An Academy Award-winning director will direct two episodes of an HBO series, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com.

The show is the HBO comedy "Enlightened," starring Laura Dern. And  the director is Jonathan Demme, whose 1991 movie "Silence of the Lambs" won both Best Picture and an Oscar for Demme as Best Director.

The project marks a rare television series job for Demme, who has previously directed one episode of "Colombo" in 1978 and one episode of "Saturday Night Live," in 1980, the story says.

Writes Andreeva, "I hear he is good friends with Dern and is a fan of her work and of ‘Enightened’," which follows a woman as she finds spiritual awareness after living in a self-destructive way.

As reported back in February, 2010, Demme may also direct a pilot for HBO after joining with the network to develop a series based on Walter Mosley’s detective novel series "The Long Fall."
