While the Emmy Awards are drawing attention to who will win on Sunday’s ceremony, a group of television executives are moving forward with starting a rival awards show that may debut in 2012, reports the New York Post

The Paley Center for Media Television Awards Planning Committee is working on an event to take place in New York during May’s annual upfront week. The committee consists of 20 television executives, including Sony Pictures TV president Steve Mosko, who is chairing the group, and Fox Networks Group CEO Tony Vinciquerra, the article says.

The group is currently working on choosing award categories and a winner voting system with the goal of addressing industry frustration with the system used by the Emmy Awards, the article adds. Some voting may be opened up to the general public, the story says.
