With an Extended Season, Will the Super Bowl Run into the 2014 Winter Olympics?

If the National Football League decides to move forward with extending its season to 18 games, a prospect that looks likely, it’s possible that the Super Bowl may go head-to-head with the 2014 Winter Olympics, reports the New York Post

Such a run-in looks inevitable because Super Sunday would fall either on one of the games’ opening nights or on the second Sunday of the Olympic’s two-week broadcast, the article points out. A similar threat to the Oscars led the awards show to announce it would be fine with moving the broadcast to a weeknight, the story says.

  1. I would hope that the NFL has more class than to disrupt the Olympics. This would show an incredible lack of knowledge about the World from an organization that claims to want to extend its reach beyond the US. Many countries and people around the world would take it as a direct insult for the NFL to thrust itself into direct competition with a global event like the Olympics. This would reinforce the view of those that already hate the United States for thinking we are more important and insensitive to the rest of the world.
