In Rolling Stone Interview, President Obama Calls Fox News ‘Destructive’

Sep 29, 2010  •  Post A Comment

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner, President Barack Obama was asked his opinion of Fox News. The answer? The network’s point of view "is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world," according to the article.

Obama notes that as president, he’s sworn to uphold a free press. But he likens Fox News to the newspapers of William Randolph Hearst, "who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view. It’s a point of view that I disagree with."

  1. WOW! and CNN doesen’t intentionally promote their viewpoints? “If you can’t stand the heat………”

  2. What a petty whiner

  3. HE DOESN’T WHINE AS WELL AS HE CAN LIE
    POOR BABY-DOES IT HURT?

  4. American journalism has lost its way. What used to be about reporting facts and delivering professional opinion has become a circus of soap box peddlers. Just because FOX News is guilty of this action doesn’t mean that CNBC and CNN aren’t. The fact that people leap to the defense of Fox News (and issuing schoolyard taunts to our President) as though this is a two-sided tug-of-war is indicative of what polarized “news” reporting has done to its viewership.

  5. How can no one mention MSNBC when they are in fact the most biased left wing news/political coverage out there. At least Fox has liberals on their shows to give some counter opinions. MSNBC with Olbermen and Maddow and every other liberal moron have no cluse about what the majority of this country believes in. Obama is a fraud!

  6. FOX NEWS is not journalism. FOX NEWS is right-wing marketing. I don’t believe FOX NEWS is real journalism and I don’t believe pro wrestling is real fighting.

  7. Keep in mind that Obama was asked specifically about Fox News, not MSNBC, CNBC or CNN (even though they are guilty of the same biases on the other side of the spectrum). He stated his opinion. It should not come as a surprise to anyone that Fox News’ point of view is one that Obama disagrees with.

  8. Can you guys read? It clearly said that he was ASKED his opinion of FOX NEWS. That’s why he gave it. If you want to know what he thinks of another news operation, then go ask him.

  9. Any notion that Fox is anything more than an arm of the Republican party have been put to rest when they allow Republican candidates come on their network and beg for donations. CNN and MSNBC have enough journalistic ethics to not allow this. Too many conservatives mistake balanced news with liberalism. Stephen Colbert is right, facts have a liberal bias.

  10. If you go to Media Matters, ThinkProgress and Salon.com – among other sits – and see the blatant lies Fox spews out on a daily basis, you would see how destructive they are. Nothing aired on the other news networks compares to what they are doing. None of the other news networks went as far as to smear George Bush. CNN and MSNBC are much more critical of Obama and his policies than Fox ever was with Bush.

  11. you are so clueless it’s laughable. Media Matters? good one.
