Kim Novak, one of the top film stars of the 1950s and early 1960s, has been diagnosed with breast cancer, reports People magazine.

The 77-year-old actress, famous for appearing in the 1958 Alfred Hitchcock film "Vertigo," is expected to overcome the disease.

"It was caught early by a routine yearly mammogram, and [she] is undergoing treatment. All her doctors say she is in fantastic physical shape and should recover very well," her spokesperson told the publication.

Novak played Kit Marlowe on the TV show "Falcon Crest" in the 1980s. Her other big-screen credits include "Picnic" (1955) and "Pal Joey" (1957).
