Following a bidding war from several networks, Fox has emerged with the rights to make a television series based on a hit Will Smith movie, reports Deadline.com.

The project is based on the romantic comedy "Hitch." The TV version, from Will Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment, will be written by "The Proposal" writer Pete Chiarelli, the story says. The show will be an "action-packed one-hour" and has received a script commitment plus penalty from Fox.

The original movie was from Sony’s Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures TV is also involved in producing the TV version, the story says.
