Apple TV vs. Google TV: An In-Depth Comparison

Oct 7, 2010  •  Post A Comment

An in-depth comparison of Apple TV vs. Google TV has been made by the good folks at Cult of Mac.

The article concludes, "Each device has its strengths and excels in individual areas; Google TV boasts more content sources and applications, whereas AppleTV has a remarkable operating system and access to the popular iTunes Store. It all boils down to user experience, and which device will better suit you. Those used to AppleTV’s simplistic user interface and familiar features may find Google TV slightly overwhelming. With it’s numerous content sources and long list of OS features, the average user looking for simple home entertainment may find it a pain."

We would strongly urge that you click here and go to the actual article which has a chart and other direct comparisons between Apple TV and Google TV.

  1. Am I the only person who flinches when the possessive form of “its” gets a worthless apostrophe?

  2. Wow, a website named “Cult of Mac” thinks the AppleTV has a “remarkable” operating system? Who’d have thunk it?
The only thing remarkable about Apple TV is how many of them they will sell despite lack of functionality and in the face of stringent competition.
    But hey, it’s Apple.

  3. OK, I read the chart, obviously produced by an Apple fanboy. Really. He says the uppermost photo is “sleek” and the lower photo is “uglier”? C’mon, TV Week. Don’t point us to highly-biased comparisons. Check out the reader comments, at least.

  4. Check out an Xbox. It is better and easier to use. Not even mentioned, and offers everything the others do and more. Only significant difference is Zune is Microsoft’s version of iTunes.

  5. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

  6. very nice blog!!!
