A star who is set to appear on "How I Met Your Mother" in at least two episodes is an actor who is well known to fans of “Sex and the City” or the offbeat 1990s David Lynch drama “Twin Peaks,” not to mention feature films including Lynch’s “Dune” and “Blue Velvet.”

Kyle MacLachlan will appear on the show as the ex-husband of Jennifer Morrison’s character Zoey, reports EW.com’s The Ausiello Files. Morrison, who is leaving Fox’s "House," where she plays Dr. Allison Cameron, will first appear in an Oct. 18 episode, while MacLachlan’s episodes will debut in early November, the story says.

MacLachlan played Trey in HBO’s “Sex and the City” and Special Agent Dale Cooper in “Twin Peaks”–a role for which he won a Golden Globe and received two Emmy nominations. He is also "Desperate Housewives’" Orson Hodge.
