New Cable Channel Brewing from ‘Idol’ Host Seacrest, CAA and AEG

Ryan Seacrest, the host of "American Idol," is in talks with talent agency CAA and entertainment company AEG about creating a new cable network, reports James Hibberd and Kim Masters in the Hollywood Reporter.

The channel would focus on music, pop culture and lifestyle content, with Seacrest likely to have an on-air part in the network, the article notes. But the new channel wouldn’t be a competitor to E!, a cable network for which Seacrest works as the executive producer and co-anchor of "E! News" and its top-rated series "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

One big "if" for the proposed network is whether cable and satellite distributors would carry it, with the report saying that Comcast as of now isn’t involved in the venture and that cable giant doesn’t have plans to carry it.

The venture is described as being in "very preliminary stages," according to the piece.
