The New York Post’s Richard Johnson, who has worked on Page Six for almost 25 years, is leaving his role as editor of the gossip pages of the New York tabloid, according to the Post.
He’ll be moving to Hollywood to work on new digital ventures for News Corp., which also owns the Post, the story says. Emily Smith, who started at the column last year, will become editor of the gossip section when Johnson moves West.
According to the Village Voice, Johnson’s departure means that Page Six will have an all-female staff, while Smith, although she has worked at Page Six for one year, has the most experience at the New York Post among the gossip pages’ staff.
As previously reported, Johnson had been tempted to leave the publication before, when the Hollywood Reporter offered him a package worth $1 million in its first year alone. Reportedly, at that time the Post would not let Johnson out of his current contract with the paper.
