Project Runway’s Stunning, Mindboggling Finale Has The Blogosphere Going Ballistic

[[For those who want to see the finale and have not yet, this story has spoilers]

In a stunning finale on Lifetime’s "Project Runway," the person who won was picked over the person most viewers probably thought was going to win.

Here’s the reaction of Missy Schwartz, who blogs about the show on the Entertainment Weekly website:

"I’m heartbroken. Disillusioned. And no amount of Heidi [Klum] arguing that ‘this was the toughest decision in ‘Project Runway’ history’ is going to make me feel any better. Heidi, you should have put on those boxing gloves and knocked some sense into your fellow judges.

"Gretchen. Not Mondo. Gretchen. She’s the winner of ‘Project Runway.’ No matter how many times I say it, it doesn’t sound any less wrong."

Over at the website of the Seattle Post Intelligencer, blogger Joey Guerra wrote:

"You have got to be kidding me, ‘Project Runway.’

"Gretchen Jones — despite being catty, manipulative and a dreadfully dull designer — was crowned the season 8 winner after an intense judges’ deliberation.

"Her "Hippie Hooker" collection won out over Andy South’s underwhelming grays and greens. But, most tragically, she bested Mondo Guerra, whose final collection was full of color, drama, culture and happiness.

"His inspired looks were like a fierce ice cream cone after a REALLY dull lunch.

"Not happy. Not happy at all."

Dawn Fallik, blogging about the show for the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy wrote

"Gretchen is the winner.   For real. I am not making this up.  Apparently the judges think we all want to be wearing gray and running through the thunder.  It’s a hot mess of horror.  Where’s that drink?"

In the words of the late great Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., "So it goes…"

  1. Notes to Heidi,
    1) Next time use 5 judges.
    2) It’s your show, so shouldn’t your vote count more?
    3) Excitement and freshness should rule over the functionality of a collection
    4) Nina had little interest in Gretchen’s collection before she added accessories. Doesn’t that say something about Gretchen’s clothes?
    5) Please buy some of Mondo’s clothes that you said you’d wear and start wearing them in public to make up for this error in judgement.
Reminiscent of what’s happened in “Idol” and “America’s Got Talent”, there seems to be a recent trend of the most talented contestant coming in SECOND. Perhaps Mondo should design an outfit for Adam Lambert 🙂

  2. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like this one these days.. 🙂
