Report: CNN Eager to Sign Couric

Oct 8, 2010  •  Post A Comment

"CNN appears especially eager to sign [Katie] Couric now that the new [CNN] show starring ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer is off to a stumbling start, the New York Post reports.

Furthermore, it’s getting less and less likely that Katie Couric will remain at CBS, the report says, citing friends of the evening news anchor.

The report comes on the heels of previously reported recent comments from CBS CEO Leslie Moonves that deals like the one Couric secured (reportedly $16 million a year)  from CBS are over.

But CNN is eager to step up and sign Couric, especially since its new show "Parker Spitzer" got off to a less than stellar start, the article notes.

Furthermore, the article recounts these comments from Jeff Bewkes, CEO of CNN parent Time Warner, during an interview on Fox News this week: " ‘There’s plenty of economic health in TV news,’ Bewkes said. ‘So you’re not for putting a cap on talent [salaries]?’ Fox anchor Neil Cavuto asked. ‘Absolutely not,’ Bewkes replied, adding, ‘Let the word go out.’"

Couric’s contract ends in May, the story says, adding that she’s the highest paid of the three evening newscasters on ABC, CBS and NBC.

  1. Another great move by CNN. Couric is another lightweight.

  2. By May they may need her to replace Spitzer and Piers Morgan.
