Angry Olbermann Blasts MSNBC Over Contributions Rule

As Keith Olbermann prepared to return tonight from his two-day suspension by MSNBC he issued a statement in which he thanks his viewers for their support but blasts his network’s decision to enforce a rule against campaign contributions that the “Countdown” anchor says he knew nothing about, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Olbermann tells viewers in his statement: “You should know that I mistakenly violated an inconsistently applied rule–which I previously knew nothing about–that pertains to the process by which such political contributions are approved by NBC.”

The anchor reportedly planned to talk about the issue on Tuesday’s edition of “Countdown With Keith Olbermann,” something that network apparently wasn’t happy about, AOL’s PopEater reported.

  1. I trust MSNBC and NBCU legal have the issue at hand covered in the company employee handbook, and/or in the on-air talent contractual language. By the way, when’s the last time anyone really read those? That aside, one would assume that Mr. Olbermann, whose counsel undoubtedly poured over every single letter and number in his employment agreement, would know the rules governing MSNBC program hosts and political contributions. For him to deny knowledge of the rules makes him seem less qualified, in my view, for the position he now holds.

  2. Bunch of double standards here. Fox News has no such rule on talent’s political contributions. Even at NBCU, CNBC reporters don’t have to live with the rule KO was supposed to. Maybe he really didn’t know because this is all so screwy.

  3. politics and contributions aside, this guy is impossible to manage. he is the biggest arrogrant a-hole from espn days til now. when comcast takes over, he’s is gone!
