Broadcast Networks Get Temporary Restraining Order on Company that Streams TV Stations Over the Internet Without Permission

Nov 23, 2010  •  Post A Comment

One of two companies known for streaming television station signals over the Internet without permission from stations, networks or content producers, has been issued a temporary restraining order from a federal judge, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

The two companies known for this kind of streaming are FilmOn.com Plc, and ivi TV.

This restraining order is against FilmOn. Fox, CBS, ABC and NBC had gone to court to stop FilmOn’s streams, arguing that it was violating copyright laws by streaming the signals without permission or compensation, the story says.

As for ivi TV, it’s awaiting word on a case it filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle, hoping to get a ruling that it’s not violating the networks’ rights, the story notes.
