For 21 years, ESPN’s No. 1 baseball broadcast team consisted of play-by-play man Jon Miller and analyst Joe Morgan. But those days are coming to an end with the news that Morgan’s contract has not been renewed, SportsNewser.com reports.
The Hall of Fame second baseman, a World Series winner with the Cincinnati Reds, will not be back for a 22nd year. Norby Williamson, spokesperson for ESPN’s "Sunday Night Baseball," said, “We’ve decided to make a change and introduce new voices and new perspective.”
Orel Hershiser, the former Los Angeles Dodgers pitching great, will continue to provide commentary on the broadcast, and may be promoted to Morgan’s role.
Miller is also being replaced on TV, although he has reportedly been given an offer to continue his radio job. Miller’s TV responsibilities might be assumed by veteran Dan Shulman.
Thank goodness! I’ll actually be able to listen to a Sunday night broadcast again. I couldn’t listen to Joe Morgan’s pompous attitude any more. Good riddance.
I agree. I did not watch Sunday night baseball for the same reason. He was annoying and arrogant.
Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
