A few weeks back it was rumored that one of the stars of “Seinfeld” might be lured back to television sooner than later, and today comes the official word that HBO has signed Julia Louis-Dreyfus to star in the pilot "Veep," reports Deadline.com.
The two-time Emmy Award winner will play an ill-equipped politician, a former senator named Selina Meyer, who agrees to be the No. 2 on a presidential ticket only to win the election and have to assume the role of vice president of the United States.
The pilot comes from Armando Iannucci, a British comedian, writer and director. In addition to starring, Louis-Dreyfus will be one of the show’s producers.
She won Emmys for each of her two previous sitcoms–one for lead actress in “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and one for supporting actress in “Seinfeld.”
