Last night was the first NFL Network Thursday night game of the season, and for those who have the channel, they not only saw the Atlanta Falcons come from behind to beat the Baltimore Ravens, they also heard interviewer Steve Mariucci get Brett Favre to reveal he is retiring at the end of this season, reports the Huffington Post.

Mariucci, an NFL Network analyst and former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers (as well as Favre’s quarterback coach in Green Bay), asked Favre whether he would be back for more quarterbacking next season. Favre shook his head and said, "No." The complete interview with Favre will be shown this Sunday on the NFL Network’s "NFL GameDay Morning" show.

Favre is playing for the Minnesota Vikings, who are off to a 3-5 start to the season.

Analysts responded to the announcement with skepticism, citing past occasions when Favre has made announcements about his playing future, only to later change his mind.

  1. Last year was a great season that made him believe coming back would be great again. This year has been mostly a disaster and I doubt he will be coming back.
