Legendary Film Producer Dino De Laurentiis Dead at 91

Prolific film producer Dino De Laurentiis died of natural causes Wednesday night at the age of 91, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Among the hundreds of films he produced since World War II were “Dune,” “Flash Gordon,” “Conan the Barbarian,” “Year of the Dragon,” “Tai-Pan,” “Breakdown,” “Ragtime” and the Jessica Lange version of “King Kong.”

He and/or his company also produced a number of critically acclaimed movies, including "Serpico," "Dead Zone," Blue Velvet," "Manhunter," and "Bedroom Window."

He helped revive Italy’s film industry after World War II and is known for backing films by Federico Fellini, including “La Strada” and “Nights of Cabiria.”

He moved to the U.S. in the 1970s and produced films here until 2007. He died at his home in Beverly Hills.

De Laurentiis is survived by his children and numerous grandchildren, including Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis.

  1. One of the greatest producers in the History of Movies. He was willing to take big gambles like King Kong, and they often paid off. He also made Wilmington, North Carolina Hollywood West in the 70’s. A true great of the industry.
