NBC, Fox Ride NFL to Sunday Ratings Success

Both NBC and Fox benefited from NFL programming Sunday, with NBC finishing the night as the top network in the ratings, TVbytheNumbers.com reported. The story noted that the numbers are likely to change due to the nature of live sports programming.

NBC averaged a 4.9 rating in adults 18-49 for the night, with Fox second at 4.3. CBS was a distant third with a 2.3 rating, followed by ABC with a 1.4, airing all repeats.

NBC also won the night in total viewers with an average of 13.5 million, but CBS made it close, placing second with 12.5 million. Fox averaged 10.4 million, with ABC well behind at 5.5 million.

At 7 p.m. Fox’s NFL game coverage overrun delivered a 7.8 rating and a 4.7 in the 18-49 demographic for the top and bottom halves of the hour. NBC’s pregame show “Football Night in America” managed a 2.1 rating and a 3.0. CBS’s "60 Minutes" averaged a 2.05 in the 18-49 demo for the hour, while ABC’s "America’s Funniest Home Videos" collected a mean score of 1.9 in the same demo.

At 8 p.m. NBC’s "Sunday Night Football” had a 4.4 rating and a 5.9 in the 18-49 demo for the top and bottom of the hour, while Fox’s "The Simpsons" and "Cleveland Show" had a 4.1 and a 3.4, respectively, in the same demo. CBS’s "The Amazing Race" averaged a 3.05 in the 18-49 demographic for the hour.

The 9 p.m. hour saw the NBC football broadcast holding to an average of 6.2 in the 18-49 demo, while CBS’s Hallmark movie, "November Christmas," averaged a 2.05 in the 18-49 demo in its first hour. A new "American Dad" on Fox at 9:30 p.m. logged a 2.9 in the 18-49 demo.

At 10 p.m., the Hallmark movie had a 2.15 average in the 18-49, far behind the NBC game coverage which concluded with a 6.0 rating and a 5.5 for the top and bottom of the hour, respectively, in the same demo.
