New AMC Series to Be a Departure From Network’s Recent Winning Formula

AMC has been raking in awards and critical praise for its original series in recent years, and now the network is going to try a different tack, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After succeeding with scripted series such as “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad,” AMC will try its hand at an unscripted format–a boxing-themed reality show centered on well-known trainer Freddie Roach and based at his Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.

The show will spotlight Roach’s professional life as well as his efforts to hold off the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Roach has worked in the past with Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, Jr., among other top fighters and celebrities.

  1. That’s the sound of me sleeping..ZZZZzzzz and they just cancelled Rubicon for this. Drama is way to expensive and requires planning and though. Sweaty boxers, now that’s entertainment..

  2. I would have liked to have been in the room when this strategy was discussed. Do the viewers of Breaking Bad and Mad Men seem like the type that would want to watch boxers training? Or are you trying to steal viewers from SPIKE.

  3. Interesting layout on your blog. I really enjoyed reading it and also I will be back to read more in the future.
