The next tech company to jump into delivering a television service may be Microsoft, which has held talks with television networks to create a subscription-based TV service on its Xbox video game console, reports Reuters.
The service would compete with products on the market from Google, Apple and Netflix, the story says. One idea that Microsoft is considering is to create a "virtual cable operator" through Xbox that would give access to broadcast and cable networks for a monthly fee.
Another option would to allow Xbox users with cable subscriptions to watch shows with interactive functions, such as messaging.
The article says Microsoft is also considering creating programming packages, such as bundles of children’s shows. Early discussions have been productive, although a service might not be on the market for another year, the article adds.
