Plot Twist for Long-Running Soap Opera: The Show Has Two More Years to Live

Nov 8, 2010  •  Post A Comment

The only remaining daytime soap opera on NBC found out Friday that it has two more years of plot twists ahead of it, as outgoing NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker called executive producer Ken Corday to give him the good news, reports The New York TImes’ Media Decoder blog.

The show is “Days of Our Lives.” Corday, whose parents helped create the show 45 years ago, said the best he had hoped for was a one-year renewal, the story says.

“This is a time of a lot of uncertainty in the soap community,” he said.

“Days” will continue through September 2013, with an option for an additional year if the show remains popular, the story says. The series has maintained its audience more successfully than some other soap operas, although it severely cut its budget two seasons ago when its license fee was sliced by more than 40% by NBC, the article adds.
