With England’s Prince William announcing his engagement to longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton this week, the television networks are already planning how they will capture what may be more than 1 billion viewers of the royal nuptials–even though a wedding date has yet to be set, the New York Post reports.
"Because of who he is, the fact that he used his mother’s ring, and everything that we have seen [the British royal family] live through for the past 30 years, I think there is going to be a very high level of viewer interest," said Jim Murphy, executive producer of ABC’s "Good Morning America."
The wedding of Prince William’s parents–Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer–in 1981 became one of the most-watched TV events in history, the story notes. William’s wedding could draw even more viewers.
In the meantime, the U.S. networks are planning specials about the couple, with CBS showing "The Early Show: Royal Engagement" live from outside Buckingham Palace this morning, and a special "Dateline" edition on NBC to air at 8 p.m., the story notes.
My spouse and i are in agreement with the poster earlier mentioned, this really is truly a wonderful period for the people over here in england, a regal wedding is simply what we need to get the country’s mood back so we are able to get through this recession and get the country back on the right track, congrats Prince William and Kate Middleton.
