San Francisco To Kids: No, You CANNOT Have a Toy with that Happy Meal

Nov 3, 2010  •  Post A Comment

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors have preliminarily banned toys from certain Happy Meals, reports the Globe and Mail.

Says the report, "On Tuesday, San Francisco became the first major U.S. city to ban restaurants from offering a free toy with meals that fail to meet certain nutritional guidelines. Happy Meals must now be healthy meals. The city’s Board of Supervisors voted 8-3 to preliminarily approve the ordinance, enough to ensure it cannot be vetoed by Mayor Gavin Newsom."

So we guess McDonald’s TV ads for Happy Meals that are shown in the Bay Area will now have to carry this disclaimer in tiny print at the bottom of the ads: "Toy not available in San Francisco where the Board of Scrooges won’t let you have one."

  1. Congratulations to the leaders of San Francisco for taking this courageous stance. I guess you don’t have enough to do these days.

  2. Yes, Congradulations are in order for those leaders of San francisco who took that stand. I am almost surprised that McDonalds did not do that themselves after being sued for causing obesety. I understand the lawsuit was dropped but the judge presiding over the case did say the lawsuit had some merit but wasn’t thourough enough.
