"Denise Borino-Quinn, who unexpectedly won a role as a mafia wife on ‘The Sopranos’ after she attended an open casting call, has died," the AP reports. She was 46 and had long suffered with liver cancer. Her husband died in March.
That Borino-Quinn became an actress was truly a Cinderella story.
Borino-Quinn had gone to the open casting call to support a friend of hers, "and was shocked when she was hired for the HBO show," the AP reported, noting that she hadn’t acted before being cast in "The Sopranos."
The AP added that Borino-Quinn "was hired in 2000 to play Ginny Sacrimoni, the mafia wife with a weight problem. The character quickly became popular with fans and was featured in an October 2002 episode."
The report said that when she wasn’t acting Borino-Quinn worked at a New Brunswick law firm.
“Ginny” was one of my favorite characters on the show. Denise brought a sense of realism and humanity to the show. Denise, we will miss you!
