The producers of "South Park," including Viacom and Comedy Central, are being sued for allegedly stealing a video from YouTube, reports the Hollywood Reporter’s THR, Esq.

The video in questions, "What What In the Butt)" is sung by  Samwell, was produced by Brownmark Films and was released in 2007. The video has received more than 33 million downloads on YouTube, the story notes. That makes it one of the most watched music videos of all time, the article adds.

"South Park" aired a recreation of the video in 2008 during the episode "Canada on Strike," with the character Butters in place for Samwell. Brownmark Films filed for copyright infringement in U.S. District Court in Wisconsin, alleging that the infringement is "willful, intentional, and purposeful."

Comedy Central responded by saying that, "Courts have consistently recognized that parody enjoys broad protections under the First Amendment and the Copyright Act."

  1. Where they are right about parody, there is a line drawn when it comes to getting profit from it.
This is why Weird Al pays royalties to use songs since he does the parodies to make money.

  2. They are not out distributing this Parody so using Weird Al is a terrible Example. This is just another case of someone trying to get money, it happens a lot to South Park. If anything it probably did “What what in the butt” a favor by parodying it.

  3. 33 million downloads? u mean views?

  4. I have read some forum posts on this topic in the past. Though I have no personal experience with it, the system I’ve seen most consistently recommended is the Profitable Trend system. They offer a free mini-course and a money-back guarantee on their main system.

  5. Kudos to you! This is a really good blog here and I love your style of writing. How did you get so good at blogging?
