One of the mainstays of the "Today" show is leaving after 40 years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In a statement, Gene Shalit, 85, the man with the never-ending mustache, said, "It’s enough already," the article reported.

According to the story,  Shalit "originally joined the program in 1970 as a regular contributor before replacing Joe Garagiola on the ‘Today’ desk in 1973. On his final day, the ‘Today’ program will broadcast a retrospective salute to his work over the decades, including film reviews and celebrity interviews."

The article made no mention of retirement. Instead, it quoted Shalit saying, in his statement, that he would " ‘pursue other activities,’ which include publishing, radio and commercials."

  1. Thought it would be Willard Scott, but maybe he’s gone already. Never watch the show since Katie went net news.
