U.S. Treasury Secretary’s Off-The-Record Briefing List: Senate Banking Committee Chair Chris Dodd; House Financial Services Committee Chair Barney Frank; Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi; and Oh Yeah, Jon Stewart. Jon Stewart?

Huh? What is Jon Stewart doing on U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s briefing list?

Says an article by  Bloomberg News, "Geithner and Stewart, host of Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show,’ held an off-the-record meeting at Stewart’s office in New York on April 2, according to Geithner’s appointments calendar, updated through August on Treasury’s website."

On the same day that Geithner spoke to Stewart, the Treasury Secretary also spoke to all of those legislators mentioned in the headline, above.

So why would Geithner have an off-the-record meeing with Stewart? (Geithner has not been on Stewart’s show, the story says, though Stewart has certainly made fun of him.)

“ ‘Jon Stewart is influential in America, so we took the opportunity for the two to meet and to discuss the economy,’ Treasury spokesman Steve Adamske said in an e-mail yesterday," the article says.

Hmm. We here at TVWeek understand that President Obama had an urgent question for Geithner the other day, but Geithner’s assistant told him that he’d have to return the call later because Geithner was stacked up with appointments from influencers Brett Favre, LeBron James, Madonna, Matt Damon, James Cameron, Heidi Klum and Justin Bieber.
