Showtime has renewed its hit series "Dexter" for another season, the show’s sixth.

Meanwhile, "The fifth season of the series is on pace to set a Nielsen-best for the show, reports our friend Tom Umstead in Multichannel News. Dexter’s Nov. 28th episode drew 2.54 million viewers, the series’ second biggest audience since the season four finale in 2009, which drew 2.57 million. The fifth-season finale airs Sunday (Dec. 12)."

Umstead adds, "Director Steve Shill won the Emmy for outstanding directing for a drama series [this year]" and "The show has received numerous Golden Globe nominations, as well as the Peabody Award in 2008 and was twice named one of AFI’s top 10 television series."
